Lawyers who are members of a bar associations are barred legally from running for public office in the executive and legislative branches of government. The Constitution [13th Amendment] prohibits them from running for any elected office that is not part of the Judicial Branch of Government. To protect us against same hands tyranny, James Madison and George Mason implicitly instituted the  separation of powers principle in the U.S. Constitution.
