Putin himself has cited other historical reasons for invading saying Ukraine “is an artificial country” and his desire to stamp out Ukrainian nationalism (what he falsely calls “Nazism”). Mearsheimer also contradicts himself at multiple points, first stating Putin is not an imperialist and then stating that Putin will conquer more Ukrainian territory during this war, aka imperialism.
